what’s cooking, good looking?

oh, you can smell it? it must be the garam masala. 😉

before i dive into what i made for dinner, that introduction will have to suffice while i blog about the rest of my day. after the usual weekday workout at the gym, i went home and took my morning shower and then made myself a bowl of…wait for it…cherry amaretto oatmeal! yum-ola! it was SO good. the perfect start to my morning. a great breakfast = a happy JB.


1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1/2 cup water, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, stevia, sliced banana, chopped cherries, 1 scoop almond butter, and more fruit on top for photo worthiness

i really was ecstatic with this bowl of oats. who gets ecstatic over oatmeal? geez louise. (you’re excluded from that who, mitri.) anyway, this bowl was A+mazing. (it gets an A+, get it?) hokay, moving on.

today i had lunch with a friend whom i hadn’t seen in a while. we used to hang out a lot, and it was really nice to see her again. we went to a small organic cafe that i really like. it has both vegan and non-vegan dishes, so it’s a great place to go with someone who doesn’t necessarily want a vegan meal. i ordered the cancun salad. it had mixed greens, avocado, roasted corn and black bean salsa, tomato, and red onion, tossed in their house dressing. it was really tasty! i tend not to take pictures at restaurants though, so i don’t have a visual for ya. but here’s a picture of the lunch i made myself yesterday:


simplest garlic bread from ED&BV…a definite favorite…and a salad consisting of mixed greens, spinach, black olives, cherry tomatoes, and artichoke hearts, tossed in italian herb dressing

i am in love with ED&BV’s simplest garlic bread. i should call mine simplest garlic toast, though. a couple of hours after lunch today (the salad at the restaurant didn’t hold me over for very long!) i made a little snacky.


1 container (6 oz) plain/unsweetened soy yogurt, fresh raspberries, 1 teaspoon cocoa powder, stevia

this tasted like a creamy, fruity, sour soup. in a good way! the soy yogurt i buy is probiotic (100% vegan, though) and it has a very tangy flavor. but i love it! i used to eat it all the time, but haven’t been lately. after my snack i went to the co-op and bought what i needed to make din din. thank god for co-ops and their bulk sections! buying in bulk is a great way to save money, and to not waste as much. especially for things like spices, nuts, and dried fruit. i’m really trying hard to keep myself on a budget!

fabulous dinner! i love, love, love asparagus. and i love indian food! i just can’t get enough of my new cookbooks. i ate this dinner while i switched back and forth from an episode of will and grace to the newest episode of the real world. the real world is a guilty pleasure. i kind of pity myself for actually liking it. it’s not my fault that none of the good shows air during summer! i think i’ll do some reading tonight, though. i just started a book that seems like it’s going to get really good. if i’ve never mentioned this before, i start books and don’t finish them all the time. i feel like it’s disrespectful to the authors, but honestly, i have serious ADD when it comes to books.

i hope everyone had a happy hump-day today! i’m going on a hike tomorrow morning instead of hitting the gym. super excited! hopefully i’ll sleep better tonight than i did last night (i woke up every couple of hours.) i can’t believe tomorrow is already thursday. time flies! and i haven’t even been having very much fun! ugh, i’m really hungry right now but i already brushed my teeth for the night. grrrr! i know that was kind of out of the blue, but this empty pit in my stomach is taking over my thoughts. i guess i didn’t eat enough today…? i’m rarely hungry at the end of the night.

    Loving all the references is this post… first, my mom used to sing that “hey good looking. whatcha got cooking” song ALL the time when I was little. And I also ADORED that book years ago. It’s seriously a classic!
